(Retitled) For Information Whenever Tommygun Is Away

NOTE: This topic dates back to April of 2006. I have returned from Basic Training and am able (for the most part) to be online regularly.

([THE FOLLOWING FANTASY STORY IS SET EARLY MORNING ON THE MONDAY AFTER EASTER. It is fictional, of course, and unfortunately it is not as humorous as it seemed when I wrote it up on my lunch hour, but the things discussed in it are true.)

As some of you know, I work at night. During my lunch break, I usually come home. Last night (or this morning, actually), there was a rabbit in front of my door.

I said, "Hello, Mr. Rabbit," and the rabbit said, "Hello." Then I asked him, "What can I do for you?" He said, "I just wanted to apologize for being a day late in getting here. All those wonderful young people on Cute Little Kittens kept me so busy yesterday."

"I can understand that," I said. "They really are great kids, and I really enjoy talking with them and helping out on the forum."

"But now I have a problem," the rabbit said. "Because I was so busy with them and the other young people in the world, I'm afraid I don't have any candy or anything left to give to you."

"Oh, that's okay. I don't really need it," I said, patting my belly. "In fact, I need to be especially careful about staying healthy and keeping my weight down, since I will be leaving for my Army training in July."

"Oh, wow! That sounds exciting. But does that mean you're going to be gone from the CLK forum, then?"

"Yes, unfortunately," I said. "Actually, I'll probably not have much Internet access for a few weeks before I leave, so I'm gonna be pretty much gone around the beginning of June. Then after I leave, I won't have hardly any Internet access at all for several weeks, and after that, not a lot of time I can spend on the site."

"Well, I wish you the best," the rabbit said, "but I can tell you're sad about having to be gone from the forum."

"You bet," I explained, as a tear came to my eye. "I'm gonna miss a lot of things while I'm gone--family, friends I see around here, watching TV, and playing with other people's pets. But one of the biggest things I'm gonna miss will be those wonderful young people on CLK.

"I'm gonna miss seeing the latest pictures of their kitties and other pets. I'm gonna miss reading their stories and discussing their questions. I'm gonna miss helping Kevin out on the forum.

"But I know everything will be all right. Kevin is a great moderator, and his setting up of 'Forum Monitors' will help make the site even better than it is now. And the kids... The kids will do their part in making the site the best on the Internet."

"I see," the rabbit said. "I hope you will keep in touch with the kids."

"Oh yes!" I said, a smile coming to my face. "We will figure out something. It won't be the same as being on the forum myself, but we're gonna work out a way to stay in touch. I don't want to lose my friends on there. No way!"

"That's good," said the rabbit, a big smile on his face as well. "Well, I need to be hopping along. And you need to have your lunch so you can get back to work."

My smile turned to a frown. "I gotta go back to work?"

"Yes," the rabbit said. "By working, you get money to pay for Internet access, so you can be on the CLK forum. Plus, you told the boss you would."

"I guess you're right," I said, still a bit down about the whole idea. "Have a nice day, and a belated happy Easter!" I said.

"You too, my friend!" the rabbit said, as he hopped off across the street and into the darkness.

So, this is to let everyone know that I, "Tommygun," will indeed by leaving the CLK site, starting probably sometime in June. I will be totally gone from early July until sometime in September, and for several months after that, I'll be on only very rarely.

But I won't forget you all. And I'll encourage every young person who might be interested to check out CLK.

I will miss you. But until I have to leave, I hope to stay on here as much as I can.

It's okay that you're going to leave. You should do other things instead of hanging on the internet and CLK.com all the time. Get out there! I couldn't stand just writing on a forum all day. I just went and visited my pets.

That story was inspired by my actually finding a rabbit near my door when I came home for lunch. And yes, I was in a goofy mood, and actually said, "Hello, Mr. Rabbit." lol But about everything after that about the rabbit is total fantasy. But I guess between being rushed for time on my lunch hour, and being tired and a little bit ill at the time, the thing seemed funnier and more mature to me as I was writing it than the final version turned out to be. It is intended to appeal to people of all ages, no matter how young or how old, and that probably affected the final outcome.

At the same time, it does express how I truly feel about this site and all of you on it. Some people, both on here and outside of here, have wondered why I get on a site like this as much as I do. Personally, it's because this is a place where there is a lot more joy and happiness and a lot less misery and sadness than I experience--and most certainly will soon experience--in my "real" life. It's a place where I've been able to help some of the best young people in the world, and where I can let down and have a little fun doing it. Soon, this "old"--actually just "middle-aged"--catlover will be in a very serious and intense position of responsibility, where there won't be much opportunity for such letting down, so please forgive me if I try to be a kid for just a little while longer before I go.

I want to thank all of you who have made me welcome here. I thank Kevin and the admin for allowing me to be of service, and putting up with my occasional screwup, and I thank Rapunzel for helping me understand just how this little community works. I won't go into thanking the specific young people on here, because I know I'll leave someone out. But all of you who have helped me and been a friend to me should know I am truly grateful.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for allowing me into your community.
